The role and place of political communication

On May 25-26, Natalia Chaban (Media and Communication) and Henrietta Mondry and Evgeny Pavlov (Russian Programme, Global Cultural and Language Studies) organised and ran an international virtual symposium involving 15 scholars from New Zealand, the UK, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Over two days, participants discussed the role and place of political communication, strategic narratives and perceptions in the information flows in the post-Soviet space, with a special focus on the political imaginations of Russia vis-à-vis Europe/the EU in post-Maidan Ukraine, three Baltic EU member states and Russia. Symposium papers will contribute to the Special Issue with peer-reviewed NZ Slavonic Journal. This cross-departmental research event united experienced and early-career scholars (including PhD candidates from the UC) and succeeded in establishing a multidisciplinary dialogue. This initiative is a result of the Jean Monnet Projects E-YOUTH and RCx-EU (led by Natalia Chaban) and NZ Slavonic Journal (co-edited by Henrietta Mondry and Evgeny Pavlov).
