Classics PhD student Amanda Macauley successfully defends her PhD thesis

The Classics Department would like to congratulate Amanda Macauley who has successfully defended her PhD thesis titled: “ ‘A kingdom of iron and rust:’ identity, legitimacy, and the performance of contentious politics in Rome (180-238CE)”. Amanda’s work provides a new lens through which to view an important period of Roman History, a way to explain the activities of key groups, and the power dynamics evident at the time. Her examiners were very impressed, recommending that the thesis be accepted without amendment. Amanda was supervised by Gary Morrison and Enrica Sciarrino.
