Classics’ Patrick O’Sullivan published in Trends in Classics

Patrick O’Sullivan’s paper ‘From the Great Banquets of Aeschylus: Gorgias, Aristophanes and Xenakis’ Oresteia has been published in Trends in Classics: Fragmentation in Greek Drama Suppl. Vol. 84: (pp. 545-570).

The paper arises out of an invited conference presentation at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki which featured leading authorities on Greek drama and literature from around the world; it not only discussed reception of Aeschylus in antiquity, but also in the work of 20th-century composer Iannis Xenakis, whose Oresteia Experience was produced by UC’s School of Music as part of the Chch Arts Festival (with some input from Classics and the Teece Museum) in 2017.

The published paper also drew on another related presentation, ‘Aeschylus Then and Now: Xenakis’ Oresteia and some Untimely Wagnerian Meditations’, which was given to the Canterbury School of Continental Philosophy Seminar in 2017.
