Some of you may be familiar with the global Death Cafe phenomenon, in which local people meet in community groups to de-mystify death and to discuss issues ranging from the practical (e.g., what are the options for an eco-friendly burial) to the esoteric and philosophical.
Interestingly, membership in Death Cafes rose significantly during the covid-19 lockdowns, as many people sought solace and community online.
Christchurch has an active Death Cafe, organized and run by Melanie Mayell.
A day-long Death Matters Conference will be held on 20 November, 2020, at the Public Library in Cathedral Square. Tickets and programme information.
