Field trip for East Asian Art and Theory

Last week, Richard Bullen arranged a field trip for his East Asian Art and Theory (ARTH 419) class to the Lan Yuan Chinese Garden in Dunedin.

The students attended a seminar on Chinese culture and the garden by the scholar in residence, Associate Professor James Beattie, and toured the garden.

On the way to Dunedin, the class was given a tour of the Aigantighe Art Gallery in Timaru by Art History graduate, curator Petrena Fishburn, and viewed some Japanese woodblock prints in its collection.

We also visited the Oamaru Chinese garden. On the way back, the class visited the Ashburton Art Gallery, to view an exhibition of photographic works by Mizuho Nishioka.
