NCRE hosts Model EU on climate change

On 20-21 October the National Centre for Research on Europe invited 60 high school students from around the country to participate in a Model EU.

The theme this year was climate change and key note speeches were delivered by EU Ambassador to NZ Nina Obermaier, Professor Linda Jean Kenix, Matt Morris (UC Sustainability) and Professor Bruce Wilson (RMIT, Melbourne).

A number of teachers also participated in a professional development workshop led by Dr Maria Perreau (Aotearoa Social Studies Educators Network).

Students who attended the event were overheard saying “it was the best event ever”.

The Model EU was funded by a Jean Monnet award won by the NCRE in 2018. Recently, the NCRE has received further funding to host 6 similar Model EUs for Schools throughout NZ over the next three years.
