Let’s talk about the leash

Professor Nik Taylor, along with Associate Professor Heather Fraser (QUT, Australia) recently gave a webinar on coercive control, animals and domestic violence.

The webinar was for Lucy’s Project, a peak Australian-based body that focuses on the intersection of human and animal violence to better assist victim-survivors with companion animals.

The webinar, ‘Let’s talk about the leash’ focussed on the misuse and abuse of the human/animal bond as a form of coercive control, an issue that has not been extensively explored despite it being a highly prevalent form of coercive control and a known signifier of some of the most dangerous perpetrators of domestic and family violence, and indicator of increased risk of homicide.
