In the School of Music, Associate Professor Justin DeHart was recently awarded $60,000 from Creative New Zealand to commission six NZ composers to write solo percussion works for him in 2023. Composers include John Psathas, Gillian Whitehead, Phil Brownlee, Leonie Holmes, Michael Norris, and our own School of Music Lecturer, Hamish Oliver. This year was the most highly contested funding round to date, with only 63 projects receiving funding. Justin’s project was 1 of only 7 seven music projects that received funding, and 1 of 10 projects funded in Canterbury. This follows from his similar successful CNZ award last year, which he is currently in the process of preparing for completion. You can find more info on the grants here.
