On Monday, 22 February Social Work (SOWK) held their welcome event to welcome our 3rd BSW and 1st MSW students.
There was a great turn out of students and a wonderful line-up of guest speakers. Jane Maidment led the afternoon’s events, Rāhera Cowie led the Waiata and Lyndon Waaka with the Mihi Whakatau.
Guests Chelsea Robinson, a MSW graduate, Sharyn Roberts, current president of ANZASW (Aotearoa New Zealand Association of Social Workers) and Jared Riawai-Couch a social worker with New Zealand Police and UC BSW graduate all gave engaging and insightful talks and the students enjoyed the words of encouragement/whakahauhau.
Raewyn Tudor got the team to mix, get to know each other and share stories with a whakawhanaungatanga.
After tea, they were introduced to the SOWK support team, from student care, academic skills and the library.
