School of Music’s annual Gala Concert

The School of Music held its annual Gala Concert on Monday, 2 August.

Students and staff performed to a capacity audience of over 250, including the Vice-Chancellor, members of UC’s senior leadership team and UC Foundation, and the wider Christchurch community.

The programme reflected the cultural and artistic diversity of the School of Music, with items drawing on Balinese, Chinese, and Indian traditions as well as Western classical and popular music.

Feedback from audience members described the concert as “riveting” and praised “the variety, the multicultural focus, the skill, the relationships between staff and students and the very professional production”, as well as “plenty of sublimely beautiful musical moments in a very well organised and seamless show”.

45 students were involved in this and 15 staff and crew, so a total of 60.  A big effort from everyone involved, and a very successful evening.
