Hundreds of free degrees to be given to lower decile South Island school-leavers

To mark its 150th anniversary in 2023, the University of Canterbury has announced hundreds of new scholarships, covering full course fees for 150 school-leaving students from South Island decile 1-7 schools, with a further 150 full-fee scholarships to be offered in 2024. Te Kakau a Māui scholarships are in line with government plans to focus on equity in education: “To ensure UC is part of enabling a better future for all and promoting social cohesion, we want to ensure that these historically under-represented students have a greater opportunity for university education,” says Brett Berquist, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of Engagement.
