The New Zealand Historical Association, in partnership with Kā Waimaero at the University of Canterbury, will be hosting their biennial conference at UC from 21st – 24th November 2023.
This year’s event will feature well known Australian writer and journalist Peter FitzSimons. He holds the distinction of being the first Australian red-carded in a rugby game Red-Carded Aussie Leads NZHA Conference Keynote Line-Up!

This year’s event will feature well known Australian writer and journalist Peter FitzSimons. He holds the distinction of being the first Australian red-carded in a rugby game against the All Blacks. Peter was given his marching orders when playing for an invitational South Australian side at Hindmarsh Stadium, Adelaide, in 1992.
The other conference keynote speakers are UC’s own Professor Te Maire Tau, Dr Liana MacDonald (VUW), and Professor James Belich (Oxford). There will be presentations from more than 100 NZHA members, many of whom are working in public history.
