PD-PCF UC Student Research Hub reports to a Ukrainian foreign policy think tank

On November 29, 2023, Student Research Hub within the Public Diplomacy and Political Communication Forum (PD-PCF) (Department of Media and Communication, directed by Professor Natalia Chaban) reported results of its project “Framing Ukraine in Australian and New Zealand Media: 2022 vs. 2023” to a Ukrainian think tank working closely with Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs – The Foreign Council “The Ukrainian Prism”.  Members of the Hub – post-graduate students Isabella Cobb (MStratCom), Chioma Mezue (MIRAD), Geethanjali Tennakoon (MIRAD), Mia Angeline, (PhD, Media & Comms), Shalabh Chopra (PhD, Media & Comms), Dmitry Romanenko (PhD, Media & Comms) and under-graduate students Noya Oporto, Brenna McMichael, Holly Blake, Florence Pearce and Bailee Wilson undertook systematic  analysis of Ukraine’s media framing in the leading media in New Zealand and Australia,  comparing across years (2022 vs. 2023), regions, leanings and countries.  In his follow-up letter, the Deputy Executive Director of “The Ukrainian Prism” Sergiy Gerasymchuk thanked the PD-PCF Hub that featured Media & Communication and Political Sciences students in a cross-departmental collaboration noting “the professionalism and commitment displayed by each member” and “the depth of analysis and insight” provided by the team. He also mentioned that the Hub’s results will inform notes presented by the Foreign Council to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
