Medals and Awards

Over the last few weeks we have had some excellent news:

Two colleagues have won UC Medals, which are the highest awards that the university offers.

  • Alison GriffithUC Teaching Medal. For her outstanding mahi in teaching at programme, Faculty and University levels for several decades.
  • Carl MikaUC Research Medal. For his highly influential and longstanding research and leadership in the field of Māori philosophy.

We have a winner of an Ako Aotearoa award:

  • Phillip Borell  – recognised with the national 2024 Te Whatu Kairangi Kaupapa Māori Award by Ako Aotearoa, which celebrates outstanding tertiary educators who are making a difference to learners, their whānau and communities.

We have winners of the UC Hapori Community of Practice Award:

  • Terri Elder and Emily Rosevear – Hapori Community of Practice Award, for their work to support teaching and learning at the University as Curator and Assistant Curator of the Teece Museum. The award acknowledged the way the team provides a bridge between academia and Ōtautahi for both students and the wider community, and brings the museum to life.
