~ all welcome ~
Thought Experiments: a series of talks/performances between Ilam School of Fine Arts and Aotahi: School of Māori & Indigenous Studies, sharing the depth and breadth of research across our respective schools and disciplines. Kindly hosted by Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū.
Carl Mika (Tuhourangi) is a Professor of Māori and Indigenous Philosophies, and Head of School of Aotahi: School of Māori and Indigenous Studies. His current research explores Māori concepts of nothingness and darkness in response to an Enlightenment focus on clarity, speculating on how they can form the backdrop of academic writing. He also contributes to philosophical discussions arising around mātauranga Māori and science.
John Chrisstoffels is an Associate Professor in Digital Screen Studies, and former Senior Lecturer in Moving Image at Ilam School of Fine Arts. A filmmaker and musician for over 35 years, his research spans much of what might be described as ‘time-based’ art.
