UC Media and Communication PhD students Sam Brett, Georgia Williams, Niuscha Hansel, Yuanita Safriti and Deborah Parker presented their papers at the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Communication Association (AANZCA) (University of Sunshine Coast, Queensland, 26-28 November, 2025). Masters student Hermione Bowles attended as part of an AANZCA travel grant/scholarship, for which she co-wrote socials/blog content for emerging research students. Sam Brett presented his paper “Research in a time of crisis” and was looking at researcher positionality in topics like climate change and the humanities more broadly. Georgia Williams presented her paper titled “Mobile mental health apps in NZ”. Yuanita Safitiri’s presented her paper titled “Move beyond fear-based messaging: Communication Strategy of Climate Change Movements on Instagram”. Niuscha Hansel presented “The Ideological Influence of America on Global News Media: A Transnational Network Analysis of Immigration” (co-authored with Professor Linda Jean Kenix). Deborah Parker presented paper titles “Thesis as methodology and methodology as thesis: Researching how to create better ways to reach people on the margins with trustworthy health information in a world of misinformation”.
