Bodily Exchanges: Blondes, Beasts and Body Swaps

Erin Harrington appeared at the Tuatara Open Late event celebrating the opening of the new exhibition MARIANNA SIMNETT: CREATURE at City Gallery in Wellington on Thursday 4 March.

Erin gave an illustrated talk, Bodily Exchanges: Blondes, Beasts and Body Swaps, which situated Simnett’s transgressive film and video graphic work within representations of blondes, animals and bodies within Disney film, celebrity culture, and the work of Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch.

She was also one of the panellists for Book Club: Monster Mash, a regular event hosted by award-winning novelist Pip Adam.

In this session, Pip, Erin, poet Rebecca Hawkes and poet / artist Sam Duckor-Jones talked discussed Tara Black’s graphic novel This Is Not A Pipe, Charlie Fox’s collection of essays This Young Monster, and Jonathan Glazer’s film Under the Skin.

Black was in the front row of both sessions, illustrating them in real-time.
