Strategic communication of Ukraine’s cultural and historic heritage: Cross-national team of New Zealand and Ukrainian researchers present at the international Jean Monnet Policy Network Conference in Leuven, Belgium

On October 25, 2024, a cross-national research team uniting researchers from the UC and Cherkasy National University (Ukraine) presented a 3.5 hour hybrid panel to the consortium of 15 partners of the Jean Monnet Policy Network “Challenges and opportunities for EU heritage diplomacy in Ukraine” (HER-UKR) in Leuven, Belgium. The panel presented results of the first year of analysis of the Work Package 5 “Strategic Communication” led by Prof Natalia Chaban of the Department of Media  and Communication.  17 researchers reported key findings of media analysis of narratives and frames of Ukraine’s cultural and historical heritage (and the EU in this context) in Western and Global South media.  Among our researchers are UC Media and Communication Department post-graduate students and recent graduates: Sophie Hill, Francesca Harrison, Mia Angeline, Dmitry Romanenko, Dr Daniela Grimberg, Shalabh Chopra; and Margaret Vernygora of the Political Science and International Relations.  The panel also featured presentations by UC research leaders of WP5:  Prof Natalia Chaban, Dr Daria Kuznetsova and Prof Paul Millar. The HER-UKR UC team also includes Dr Christopher Thomson and Dr Geoffrey Ford. Finally, our UC team wants to acknowledge our amazing Ukrainian research collaborators from Cherkasy National University in Ukraine.
