HE Vasyl Myroshnychenko, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Australia and New Zealand, visited the UC for the first time on 23-24 January 2025. The Ambassador met with the UC’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Cheryl de la Rey as well as Ukrainian academics working at the UC. The Ambassador was hosted by the Department of Media and Communication, where he presented a seminar about Ukraine, Ukraine-New Zealand relations and global challenges. He also met with two student research teams working within the framework of the UC’s research centre Public Diplomacy and Political Communication Centre (directed by Professor Natalia Chaban). Students presented their key findings about narratives and frames of Ukraine in New Zealand, Australian and Fijian Media (“Ukraine Student Research Hub 2024) and in Global South media (Jean Monnet Policy Network “Challenges and opportunities of the EU’s Heritage Diplomacy towards Ukraine”, 2023-2026). The team of presenters included Dinda Veskarahmi (MStratCom), Francesca Harrison (MStratCom), Bryce Vevey (MIRAD), James Blanchett (MEURO), Sophie Hill (Media & Comms alumnus, MA in Media and Communication), undergraduate students Charlotte McAleer-Menzies and Daisy Francis, and UC staff Dr Daria Kuznetsova (Media & Comms/Political Science) and Professor Natalia Chaban (Media & Comms).
